About the project
Resources :
In the early morning hours of September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike hit the coast of Texas near Galveston. The massive disaster affected hundreds of thousands of people along the Texas Gulf Coast.
More than 30,000 families in Texas still are recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ike. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a grant to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to help families rebuild their lives.
The grant will fund the Hurricane Ike Texas Rise and Connect project, a pilot project to provide disaster case management services that help people make plans for their own recovery and work through that process. Project services will be provided by Deep East Texas Council of Governments, Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response and Neighborhood Centers Inc.
FEMA will use information from this project to develop a model for responding to future disasters.
